Welcome to The Barn Nursery!
Barn Nursery in Stanbrook, Thaxted is situated on a farm which includes a copse and garden area we take children from the age of 6 months to 4+ years. We even have farm animals including our Shetland pony, ducks, chickens, our mischievous pygmy goats.
Our ethos is one of care, concern and commitment to children irrespective of their abilities or individual needs, including children with special needs. We work very hard to provide creative, meaningful and challenging activities in a safe and caring environment.
We welcome and respect every child as a valued individual irrespective of ability, race, gender, religion or any other differences. We are aware of our duties and responsibilities in Law regarding child protection matters.
Barn Kids is our out-of-school and holiday club for children aged 4-14 years old. Our opening times are 7.45am – 6.15pm. We have our own wood “Wonderwood” and meadowland to play on. We also make use of the two other woods on the farm site; “The Hidey Hole” and “Boggy Wood” as well as taking walks around the surrounding area and paddling in the river Chelmer.
Our focus is on the natural world. We take part in many environmental activities and projects set up by larger charities and companies. We have our own chickens to care for and grow fruit and vegetables for our tea in our own growing garden.
We often have visitors to come and talk to us, e.g. a woodcarver from the British Woodcarving Association and a zoo assistant who explained the day to day workings of a zoo.
The children participate in everyday decisions about the running of the out-of-school club. At the start of each session the children discuss what activities they would like to do. We also hold children’s council meetings where the children discuss what theme they would like for the term and evaluate the previous terms activities. The children choose their own breakfast and teatime menus.
