Playground Plans

Follow The Barn Nursery’s playground transformation

Part of our on-going efforts to improve our provision for children is our playground revamp. We have been observing how the playground is used by children and staff, the opportunities it presents as well as how often children use this space to free flow. Parents and carers of the setting wanted to see some changes, and supported this through fundraising events. We found that our space was mainly being used to support physical development, as children chose to ride bikes and scooters. Centred around this theme the playground has been decorated and reorganised to support this interest. We are also having the large floor space changed as soon as the weather brightens, and it will include fun road markings for the children to follow.

Jack and the Beanstalk

We have recently been focusing our learning around Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have shown an interest in the story book and so our activities and panning have then centred around this theme. Today, preschool used their imagination to milk a cow and used their math skills to sell the milk for gold coins, just like Jack and his Mummy. We have also made our own giant, grown beans of our own, made bread and cooked beans on the fire at forest schools.

Kindness Week

Let’s celebrate kindness

The children at The Barn Nursery have been celebrating Valentines Day through our very own ‘Acts of Kindness’. All children have been participating in activities that promote kindness and well being. Kindness acts include helping each other cut up our food, sharing toys from home, praising each others achievements and helping our teachers prepare for the day like filling up our drinks bottles. Their acts have been rewarded through a choice activity of baking brownies and Forest School.

Fire Lessons at Forest School

Nuts About Nature

Forest School lessons are planned to promote risky play, and that is exactly what we do here at The Barn!

Alongside last weeks lesson on using tools the children all made their own small fire one to one with our Forest School lead Kate. At the end of the session the children then made a ‘magic fire’. By adding a very special potion to the fire a little at a time, we watched the flames roar with different colours.

The Preschool children filled with confidence and enthusiasm independently stood in front of their class and sang a song of their choice around the campfire.
