Story Box Challenge

The staff at The Barn Nursery recently took part in a Story Box challenge to further support speech and language development for all children. Each Story Box contains exciting resources and props to bring the story alive! The boxes are available for each room to use and for families to take home. We are also extremely proud to know that our boxes have been featured in childcare magazines; Nursery World and Essex SEND News.

The winning story box was ‘Freddie and the Fairy’ and was created by staff members Kay and Faye. The story is based upon a Fairy with a hearing impairment.

Welcome to Autumn at The Barn Nursery…

Welcome to Autumn at The Barn Nursery…

The children at The Barn have been exploring our wonderful Autumn environment. We have been experimenting with Pumpkins by carving, cooking and sorting them. Each class have also collected items from the garden and forest to make an Autumn Wreath. Most importantly, we all enjoyed taking part in picking our pumpkins from the vegetable patch as we have been watching them grow for some time. We are very impressed with how big they have grown!

Forest Schools

Forest School at The Barn Nursery with Nuts About Nature

We are so very lucky here at The Barn to have so much amazing outdoor space. One of our outdoor areas is a large woodland named ‘Wonder Woods’, we make sure we use this space to its full potential by regularly providing Forest School classes for all children. Forest School enables our children todiscuss new things, problem solve, work in teams, interact, risk taking and most of all confidence. The childrens favourite activity is to make a camp fire and toast marshmallows!

Pre School Graduation & Open Day Success!

“Thank you all for such a lovely graduation day, it was so nice!” R.Sinnott

On Sunday 5th August, The Barn Nursery put on its first ever Graduation Party and Open Day for the families of the nursery. It was such a successful day, with nearly all of our families attending showing their support for the nursery. Pre school performed their Graduation Songs so well and were sure to make everyone proud. We continued our celebrations over to our Wonderwood Forest where we enjoyed a BBQ and games.

Thank you to all of ours new and existing families for being so supportive and to our great staff here at The Barn who gave up their time to attend the event making it enjoyable for all.

Autumn Newsletter 2017

Dear Parents

Welcome to our termly newsletter. There is definitely an autumnal feel in the air and our beautiful outdoor environment is looking decidedly mellow with a wonderful array of orange, red and russet tones in the leaves and trees.

We said ‘Goodbye’ to our Pre-School children who have headed off to ‘big School’ and have welcomed many new children and babies to the nursery.

Staff News

It is with great happiness that we can announce that Claire Simpson our Deputy Manager and Pre-School Room Leader is expecting her first baby at the end of February 2018. Claire is very excited at the prospect of being a ‘mummy’ and we hope she continues to blossom throughout the remainder of her pregnancy.

We welcomed Emma Townsend to the team at the end of July. Emma comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience as she has recently completed her BA Honours in Childcare and Education. Emma’s last role was working as a Teaching Assistant at Stebbing Primary School. Emma will work Monday-Thursday alongside Lorraine Lewis and Kay Hannay.

Staff Training

We have staff currently booked onto the following training for the autumn term: Risk assessments, Role of the ENCO, Designated Safe Guarding level 3 and Promoting Positive Behaviour.

Employee of the Term

We have introduced a reward scheme for the nursery team and we are pleased to announce the employee of last term was Kelly Goldsmith. Kelly has almost completed her level 2 training (2 months ahead of schedule) is hard working, conscientious and injects fun into the activities she sets up for the children in the pre-school room-

Room Alterations

We are very excited to inform you that we have plans in place to make alterations to some of the rooms in the nursery which will give us more scope to develop our Tweenies and Pre-School room. We will keep you updated with the progress of this project…..please watch this space!

Parents Evening

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents that managed to attend our parents evening at the end of June it was a great success.

No Shoe Policy

Due to the change in the weather and the fact that we have smaller babies that are crawling we have decided to implement a No Shoe Policy in all rooms from October. Please see attached letter.

Halloween Party

We are planning a Halloween party for all children on Thursday 26th October 4.30-6.00. Please see attached invite.

Website/ Permission Information

We are currently updating our website with new pictures; if you have previously not given permission on your Enrolment Form for your child to be on line but have now changed your mind then please speak to a member of staff who will happily change the stored information we have on file.

Reminders

May we please remind all parents that your child does need a named hat for the colder months and if you could please supply a warm jumper and rain coat which is clearly marked with your child’s name, we no longer supply hats due to the risk of head lice, thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Could we please remind you that we do require 4 weeks’ notice if you wish to change or terminate your child’s place at nursery in writing after consultation with the Manager (Vicky) or General Manager (Molly) in line with our policy, thank you.

If you have any changes in your details e.g. address, phone numbers or emails, then please obtain a change of details form from the main entrance; it is of utmost importance that we have correct and relevant contact information.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support, it is very much appreciated, and as are any ideas or suggestions you may have e.g. a favourite meal at home, please feel free to share it with us!

Its Harvest time!

The children have really enjoyed watching the combine cutting the corn outside the nursery this week.

The children asked lots of wonderful questions and watched in amazement as they learnt that the crops would be used to make their bread!
